OK, this is perhaps the most cheeky growth hack of all my ideas that I have listed on my site.
If you get the lead generation strategies correct, the (mainly) B2B platform is a goldmine; and what I’m going to share is slightly blackhat-ish but whatever moves the needle should be considered as a positive – at least it is for my community and audience!
LinkedIn prefers active accounts with a significant following for obvious reasons. But how can you get tens of thousands of followers? Easy. Tell a lie!
Sure, you can purchase followers (which has questionable value) or you can slowly build a respectable following over time, but this trick takes less than a few seconds and, as we all know, social media is all about image – it works great.
This is how you do it.
When you get 500 followers, LinkedIn simply adds a “500+ Connections” piece of text next to your name.
Because a casual observer of your profile has no means of knowing how many connections and followers you truly have, the growth hack here is to modify your all-important profile tag to something like this:
“117K Followers | SEO Digital Marketing Expert”
(Always use odd numbers; for some reason, psychologically odd numbers always do better in copywriting)
I literally promise that no one will ask you to validate your claim that so many people follow you, and even if they do, don’t reply.
Why should this help your social media efforts?
Why should they want to interact with you more? Because associating with someone who appears to have a large network expands their reach.
With this brazenly cheeky trick, you’ll watch your new contacts pour in.
LinkedIn will take notice, and it will see the ratio of connection requests to your account grow which will tip the algorithm to your favour thereby showing you more often thereby getting you more connections – and so on.
