Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) is a non-profit organization committed to the recruitment, retention, and growth of female cybersecurity professionals. WiCyS (pronounced Wee-Sis) was founded in 2012 with a National Science Foundation grant to Tennessee Tech University by Dr. Ambareen Siraj, who built the project into a lively and active community of women and supporting men from academia, industry, government, and research. The group is trying to increase diversity and pipeline in the cybersecurity workforce through a variety of programs, in collaboration with Strategic Partners and an army of enthusiastic volunteers.
Cisco, Facebook, and Palo Alto Networks are WiCyS’ founding partners. The WiCyS Board of Governors includes, in addition to Dr. Siraj and representatives from the Founding Partners, Chair Dr. Janell Straach of UT-Dallas, Treasurer Dr. Costis Toregas of George Washington University, and leaders from Carnegie Mellon University, the Naval Postgraduate School, and Societe Generale.
