Rochester Security Summit 2022

During the month of October, which is designated as National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the Rochester Security Summit serves as a community focal point for education and awareness. It is organized in conjunction with partners from higher education, business, and industry.

In order to enlighten local security and IT experts, business managers, organizations, and our community on how to secure information systems and data, the Summit will feature speakers and panels. A quality event needs sponsors, therefore we provide participants access to an exhibit space where industry leaders may share more information. Everyone is welcome to take part in the programs as a volunteer in the preparation and execution of the event. Your company and our community may gain from improved security procedures with your assistance and backing.

ICS/OT Cyber Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Incidents: Past and Present

Discover new ICS threat groupings, vulnerabilities, and insights from the field, including incident response case studies of previously unreported occurrences, by taking a close look at past case studies and new research from 2021. This presentation will provide a primer and ground-truth realities on what actually occurs in our industrial contexts.

Ben Miller, at Dragos, has more than 20 years of expertise in information security, Ben has specialized in the special difficulties of protecting and safeguarding industrial control systems. He started his career in critical infrastructure as the owner of an electric asset, where he was in charge of identifying threats and taking action across a Fortune 150 company. During this time, he learned about the security issues that can arise in nuclear, transmission, and generation environments. Ben then started working at North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Ben collaborated extensively with government agencies and businesses on a range of risks, vulnerabilities, and other issues pertaining to the North American bulk electric system in what would eventually become the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center (E-ISAC). He regularly contributes to a number of journals and is a skilled conference speaker. He spends his free time in Maryland with his family, enjoying the simple pleasures of outdoor cooking.

Data-Centric Security Trends: Secure Your Cloud Data Now 2022

Data drives business and better data supplied quicker drives competitive advantage. During every stage of its existence, this priceless data must, of course, be guarded against unauthorized access and compromise. However, businesses handle their data and ensure its security in a disorganized and haphazard manner. How can businesses increase the safety of their data while at the same time simplifying how users access it?

The response is that this difficulty can only be overcome by transitioning to a data-centric security architecture AND by fostering collaboration between the data and security teams in order to construct a “single source of truth.”

Privacy SIG: Operationalising Privacy in Small & Mid-Sized Organizations

The process of operationalizing and implementing privacy is a challenging endeavor for any organization. Even more so for smaller businesses like SMBs, which typically have fewer resources and less access to specialized knowledge. If businesses want to remain in business, however, it is imperative for them to adhere to all privacy regulations that are now in effect.

During this workshop, we will discuss a strategy and methodology for implementing privacy in small and medium-sized businesses.

Peak Cyber Symposium & Cybersecurity Summit for Small Businesses 2022

The Colorado Springs Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) will now co-host this event with the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center (SBDC). To that end, they provide training activities during their monthly meetings and have an annual CISSP Review.

Furthermore, they support the Cyber Patriot program, which aims to get high school students interested in and involved in information security. Finally, they offer grants to local schools to help with information security education. As an organization, they think that information security is both present and future.
