In 2022, in Italy, Genova the IEEE Euro S&P will be taking place.
The SILM workshop’s goal is to discuss experiences, tools, and approaches for dealing with security in software/hardware interfaces. On the one hand, the organizers say that we all need to improve our understanding of the security assurances given by existing hardware architectures against software assaults, particularly those targeting micro-architecture. This can be accomplished by discovering new vulnerabilities using reverse engineering, fuzzing, or other attack methods. On the other side, we must suggest new designs that are more resilient to software threats. To safeguard the software stack, these designs should rely on hardware-based security methods. Formally describing and proving the security assurances provided by such systems is one of the issues.
This third edition of the SILM workshop aims to provide a venue for academics and practitioners working on the security of software/hardware interfaces from academia, business, and government.

IEEE Workshop on 5G & Beyond Wireless Security (Wireless-Sec) 2022
Future wireless systems will necessitate a paradigm shift in how they are networked, structured, configured, optimized, and automatically recovered based on their operational conditions. People, data, processes, and objects are all being brought together in the new Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) applications to meet our daily demands. Adaptive services and applications are gaining popularity as software-defined networks arise, as they enable the automatic setup of devices and their parameters, systems, and services in response to changes in the user’s context.
The future Fifth Generation and Beyond (5G&B) wireless networks, which are more than just a 4G upgrade, are projected to form the backbone of IoT and CPS, supporting IoT systems by expanding coverage, lowering latency, and increasing data rate. However, providing durable connectivity to accommodate the huge number of frequently resource-constrained IoT and other wireless devices has various obstacles. As a result, existing communication protocols and techniques are not suited owing to various unique aspects of new applications, such as low latency, low cost, low energy consumption, and robust and dependable connections.
Given the limits imposed by heterogeneous IoT and CPS systems, it is critical to have security by design in 5G and Beyond wireless networks. IoT&Security 2023 : 2nd International Workshop on IoT and Security @ IEEE DASC 2023
Because of the expansion of IoT devices in ordinary human life, their security has become a key requirement. Currently, those devices are not very secure for a variety of reasons. For starters, manufacturers do not prioritize security, producing goods that are open to attacks, leaving users with security concerns that are unlikely to be rectified. Second, many IoT devices lack the computer ability to run an antivirus or do not allow it to be installed.
Finally, the heterogeneity of the IoT in terms of apps, hardware, and software broadens the attack surface while increasing the difficulty of adopting all-encompassing security solutions. Despite the security provided by IoT enabling technologies (e.g., communication protocols) or intrusion prevention systems (e.g., network firewalls), attackers continue to develop ways to compromise devices or their communication.
Unlike laptop and desktop computers, which have periodic on-off cycles, many IoT devices, such as webcams and wireless routers, work unsupervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As a result, IoT devices are particularly vulnerable to various assaults, such as those aimed at recruiting devices for botnets. As a result, IoT networks are not only harmful for themselves but also for remote systems that are targets of assaults launched by infected IoT devices. Furthermore, IoT-based systems that handle sensitive data (for example, healthcare IS) must respond quickly to malicious activity in order to prevent private data from exiting the network.
As a result, IoT networks must have some form of security mechanism, such as intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, attack reaction systems, proactive defense mechanisms, and so on.
The main topics include but are not limited to:
- Intrusion Detection Systems
- Malware/Botnet detection
- Security for VANETS/MANETS
- Security for IoT-based systems (industrial control, healthcare monitoring, Cyber-Physical Systems, domotic)
- Security for cloud-based IoT applications
- Security at the edge/fog
- Attack detection and countermeasures
- Game Theory for the IoT Security
- Security resources placement strategies
- Security for software-defined IoT networks
- Security for narrowband IoT networks
- Security for SCADA-based systems
- IoT firmware analysis
- Automatic exploit generation for IoT devices
- Side channel attacks for IoT devices
- Cryptography for IoT
- Tamper proofing techniques for IoT
IEEE International Conference on Cyber Security and Resilience 2023
The technological and industrial transformation ushered in by complex Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) brings with it new risks and cyber-attacks that take advantage of their inherent complexity and heterogeneity. These attacks have a considerable detrimental impact on the operation of numerous services in important sectors, such as energy, transportation, and communications, on which our societies rely.
In order to avoid potentially uncontrollable cascading effects, systems under assault should display resilience in the form of graceful degradation and/or operational continuity, as well as rapid recovery of essential functionality. To that aim, the burgeoning area of cyber resilience can be defined as a collection of strategies, approaches, and techniques for enhancing complex CPS adaptive capability during cyber-attacks.
The conference focuses on theoretical and practical elements of network, system, and service security, privacy, trust, and resilience, as well as creative approaches to coping with vulnerabilities and mitigating sophisticated cyber-attacks.
